thunderstorms, Upper Bavaria, weather warning

BR reported that the German Weather Service has warned of severe thunderstorms in parts of southeastern Upper Bavaria through the night into Friday.

The districts of Berchtesgadener Land and Traunstein could see heavy showers and thunderstorms, with 35 to 60 litres of rain per square metre falling within a few hours. Small hail and strong to storm force gusts of around 60 kilometres per hour are also possible.

The German Weather Service warned of a risk to life from lightning, as well as falling trees, damaged high voltage lines and scaffolding, and large objects being blown around. Roads, underpasses and basements could be flooded, while aquaplaning and landslides are also possible.

Friday will bring a mix of sunshine and clouds in southern Bavaria, with isolated showers or thunderstorms still possible in the Alps. Northern areas will generally be sunny and dry.

The weekend is expected to be mostly sunny. More clouds will move in from the west on Sunday afternoon, bringing a higher risk of showers and thunderstorms. Highs are forecast to reach 24 to 30 degrees Celsius on Friday, 26 to 32 degrees on Saturday and 30 to 35 degrees on Sunday.
