Police launch major operation after alarm at Vienna Dorotheum branch

Police launched a major operation on Thursday afternoon at a Dorotheum branch on Währinger Straße in Vienna, ORF reported. The area around the jewellery dealer and auction house at Währinger Straße 134 was extensively cordoned off.

Media reports described an armed robbery, while the Kronen Zeitung reported a possible hostage-taking. A Vienna police spokeswoman did not confirm either report.

Police confirmed that an alarm indicating a robbery had been triggered at a business during the afternoon. Officers were investigating whether suspects were still inside because the situation remained unclear. Police urged passers-by and local residents to follow officers’ instructions.
