Carinthia has presented an artificial intelligence supported voice assistant that provides information about traffic fines around the clock, ORF reported. The service is intended to make everyday tasks easier for residents and reduce the workload for public employees.
The digital assistant was presented on Thursday at the Hermagor district authority. Its automated answers cover questions such as when a fine can be paid, which deadlines apply and what happens if it is not paid.
The voice bot can understand dialects and several foreign languages. Complex requests are automatically forwarded to the responsible department.
Carinthia Governor Daniel Fellner of the SPÖ said the aim was “not less human contact, but more time”. The assistant does not make decisions. Staff take over whenever a complex, individual legal assessment is required, while the artificial intelligence handles routine tasks only.
The assistant has been undergoing intensive testing since its launch on May 1, 2026. It has already handled more than 1,850 calls, with conversations lasting an average of two minutes.
Carinthia processes around 500,000 administrative penalty cases each year. About one third involve foreign countries, and the fines are sent worldwide. The completion rate is more than 85 percent. The Hermagor district authority handles speeding offences as well as toll and parking cases, including those involving foreign countries. These procedures are expected to generate around 17 million euros this year.
