55-year-old man dies in Vienna apartment fire

A 55-year-old man was found dead after an apartment fire in Liesing, Vienna, ORF reported. The fire had already gone out by itself, and police believe it may have been caused by a cigarette or a lit candle.

A neighbour noticed the smell of smoke in the stairwell on Wednesday morning and alerted the fire service and police. Vienna’s professional fire service then opened the apartment’s front door and found that the fire had already been extinguished.

The resident was found dead inside the apartment. The State Criminal Police Office is investigating the circumstances of the fire.

Firefighters inspected the apartment and ventilated it.
