Milk tankers deliver drinking water to drought-hit Bavarian towns

Drinking water is running short in Böbrach in the Bavarian Forest, prompting the municipality to bring in supplies by milk tanker, BR24 reported. Water from Bodenmais will be pumped into the town’s storage reservoir over the coming days.

Rain shortages and heat have depleted Böbrach’s municipal water supply to the point that drinking water deliveries are now necessary. Without the additional supplies, the town said, drinking water could no longer be guaranteed.

The municipality said the delivered water meets all legal drinking-water quality requirements and that residents have no cause for concern. It nevertheless urged people to use water sparingly to protect limited resources and secure supplies over the long term.

Drinking water is also being delivered by milk tanker to Bad Bayersoien in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. The municipality has issued an order valid until September 1 requiring residents to conserve water. The measures include a partial ban on watering, while filling private swimming pools is also prohibited.
